The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) organizes every year the ITU Telecom World conference and this year it will take place in Budapest from 12 to 15 October. The ITU is the most important global institution of the United Nations in the field of information and communication technologies. The Geneva based organization has almost 700 private sector entities in its 193 member states. ITU celebrates its 150th Anniversary this year. It was founded in 1865 as the International Telegraph Union in Paris and Hungary was among its 20 founding members.
The ITU Telecom World is a global platform that brings together the main ICT developers, ministers of ICT and any related sector, regulatory authorities, small and medium enterprises, Industry CEOs, investors, emerging start-ups, and the local and international media to accelerate ICT innovations, sharing knowledge and making meaningful connections.
The event offers a unique chance for small and medium size enterprises and start-up companies to share their views, make connections and promote their developments and innovations in front of the leading international professionals. The event is also designed to facilitate networking at the highest level, including UN special agencies, regulatory authorities and high level industrial executives.
The ITU Telecom World conference is organized since 1971, annually from 2011. The global event became soon one of the most important professional event in the ICT sector. The Europe Telecom was held in Budapest in 1992, so after 23 years the conference returns to Hungary. The four-day-long event involves 3 main elements: an exhibition, a forum and a networking opportunity. The main theme of this year’s conference will be “accelerating ICT innovation to improve lives faster”, however the small and medium enterprises and young talents (Young Innovators Competition) will also be highlighted.
